Navigating the Beagle Channel is an experience that allows species sighted in the area and gives a card from Ushuaia in its entirety, seen from a distance: the water, then the city, forests and hills, mounts Olivia, Five Brothers and Sheer. Different agencies offer different types of catamaran rides. Whatever service you hire, 2 hours, 3 or 4, the highlights are the famous Les Eclaireurs lighthouse, two red stripes and one white; Isla de los Lobos, on which dozens of sea lions desperezan one over the other, and Bird Island, where you can see dozens of species of birds, mostly cormorants Magellan and imperial, but also albatross and petrels. In summer, the most popular excursion is to the penguin colony on the island Hammer, where you can choose to walk down a path to Magellanic penguins in the company of a guide.
Tierra del Fuego National Park
Just 12 kilometers west of Ushuaia along National Route No. 3 is reached Tierra del Fuego National Park. It is the only country that has shoreline. There are 63 thousand hectares of a rich ecosystem and diverse: valleys, rivers, lakes, mountain ranges, canyons, beaches and sub-Antarctic forest. Estancia Harberton
Estancia Harberton was the first of Tierra del Fuego: It is considered the first rural settlement on the island. It was built in 1886 by Thomas Bridges, under his Anglican mission. It can be reached in two ways: through the route J or catamaran. Today the main activity is tourism, which is managed by the great-grandson of Bridges, Thomas D. Goodall. Inside the house operates a museum of birds and mammals in the area, and a religious library that belonged to Thomas Bridges. In addition, you can take a tour of the grounds and the cemetery. There is also a botanical garden with replicas huts Yamana.
Cerro Castor
In the winter, the place to be in Ushuaia is the Cerro Castor, one of the most complete centers of ski country. For the stable weather conditions, there the season is longer than elsewhere, generally runs from June 17 until October 12, approximately. It is one of the largest in South America. The hill is only 195 meters above sea level and the summit, at 1,057 meters. There are 26 tracks, totaling 30 kilometers of pistes and six lifts. The altitude reaches 772 meters. Museum del Fin del Mundo
The former prison doomsday is since 1994 a museum where one really seems to early last century when the inmates met their sentences there. Tren del Fin del Mundo
From the End of the World Station, 8 kilometers from the city now part of a colorful red train makes a tour in the area around the National Park. Trout fishing in Rio Grande
Rio Grande is famous for being the international capital of trout. Some famous fishermen who visited are Sylvester Stallone, Ted Turner and Robert Duvall.
Tierra del Fuego in general and Rio Grande in particular are ideal for fly fishing for trout in the amount and quality living in its rivers. In fact, it is considered the international capital of trout. Worldwide fishing enthusiasts come, attracted by the size and weight of individuals that are achieved. They have even famous fishing in these lands, as Sylvester Stallone, Ted Turner and Robert Duvall. The rivers in which it takes place are Grande Menendez and Irigoyen and the season is more extensive than elsewhere: from 1 November to mid-April. Of course, the return of the pieces is mandatory.
Dogsledding
One of the funniest and most original winter activities that Ushuaia offers are sleigh rides through beautiful dogs Siberian & Alaskan Huskies.
One of the most original activities that Ushuaia offers rides in winter are dog sledding. It can be combined with snowshoeing, something that is fun for downhill. They are made in Tierra Mayor, a vast peat valley completely covered with snow from June. The journey begins in sleigh, being pulled by beautiful dogs Siberian & Alaskan Huskies. There is always an accompanying guide. You enter the beech forests ancient paths are followed to a stop called woodcutter’s shelter. There sleds are changed by snowshoes and foot excursion to the Alvear Ice Waterfall and the Mirador del Valle is undertaken. The view is stunning.
