Rose Garden

A centenary
In 2014, the Rose Garden of Palermo celebrated its centenary (1914-2014) and was awarded the international prize “Garden Excellence Award” (Garden of excellence). This prize is awarded annually by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS are its acronym in English).
Palermo Racecourse
City Race Course, located next to the forests of Palermo, was opened in 1876 and became administered by the Jockey Club in 1883, under the presidency of Carlos Pellegrini. During his tenure, the racetrack was expanded in the early twentieth century by the French architect Louis Faure-Dujarric (responsible for the construction of the tennis stadium Roland Garros), who was responsible for the refurbishment of the stands. The planetarium in Palermo
The Planetarium is the main information center of astronomy in the city. Has a hemispherical projection room with 360 reclining seats and a dome 20 meters in diameter where they breed about 8,900 stars, planets and satellites of the universe, and thematic documentary films, thanks to an impressive team (of 5 meters and 2.5 tons) containing about one hundred projectors and is located in the center of the room.
The building has five floors, six stairs (helical), the central projection room and a smaller room used for temporary exhibitions. Construction began in 1962 and ended in 1966. The Planetarium also houses a collection of meteorites from North Argentina. In the adjacent lake is the Surprised sculpture by Italian Nicolás A. Ferrari and a few meters, an evocative monolith Polish scholar Nicolaus Copernicus. The Japanese garden in Palermo
The Japanese Garden is one of the most calm and relaxing places of the city, located in the neighborhood of Palermo. It was opened in 1967 on the occasion of the visit of the present Emperor of Japan, Akihito and his wife Michiko.
All elements of your garden look for balance and harmony. It features a large variety of plant species, a lake inhabited by fish carp, an island and several bridges and sculptures related to the Japanese culture. Modeled on Zen Garden, he was redesigned in 1977 under the direction of landscape engineer Yasuo Inomata.
In the park there is also a building that houses a cultural center and a restaurant serving Japanese cuisine, a nursery where you can buy plants (bonsai) and food for fish the lake and a Japanese crafts store.
